Hertfordshire Ladies looked to bounce back from their opening game defeat to Middlesex in the Southern Counties Cup competition, with a trip to Kent FA.
With a delayed, but lively and open start to the game, both teams came close to breaking the deadlock early on.
Hertfordshire goalkeeper Yasmin Walford was the busier of the two keepers in the opening 20 minutes, with the home side piling on the pressure.
Unsurprisingly Kent took the lead on the half-hour mark; Niamh Jestin’s chip shot sailed over Walford’s head and into the net.
Just five minutes later however Hertfordshire had registered an equaliser and their first goal of the season, from a corner; Becky Day poking home a loose ball.
On the stroke of half-time, Kent took the lead again with Amy Russ causing the danger this time round.
Three minutes after the break, Niamh Jestin netted her second of the game to give Kent some breathing space; the hosts lead 3-1.
Hertfordshire goalkeeper Walford pulled off a wonderful save to keep the visitors in the game, as well as denying Russ her second of the game.
The away side were knocking on the door for a second and came close to pulling one back, with Gemma Croucher doing well to set-up Andie Dickens who fired over.
Credit to Hertfordshire, who refused to give up as the game entered its remaining ten minutes, with Sammy Edger coming close and the woodwork denying a second.
It was not to be for Hertfordshire however, with two quick-fire Kent goals in the last minute putting the game out of reach for the visitors.
The full-time whistle blew as the game finished Kent FA 5 Hertfordshire FA 1, a score line which most probably flattered the home side.
