St Albans City FC lift the 2023/24 Charity Cup

Charity Cup Beneficiaries

Funds raised are distributed to the good causes nominated by the finalists

We are delighted to confirm the good causes that will benefit from the funds raised through the 2023-24 Hertfordshire FA Charity Cup

The Hertfordshire FA Charity Cup is one of our longest standing competitions, with the first final played back in 1901. Initially introduced as a method of raising funds to support injured players, today it’s an opportunity for the football community to come together and give back to worthy local causes.

The proceeds from matches played in this competition are collected and distributed to charities nominated by the competition finalists.

Returning this year after a break due to the pandemic, the top eight clubs in the county (with the current exception of Watford, Stevenage and Boreham Wood) were invited to contest the Charity Cup.

This year’s final was between Potters Bar Town and St Albans City, with The Saints lifting the trophy for the 27th time in their history. Over the four rounds of the competition a total of £4,161 was raised and this will be split equally between the following good causes:

  • Youth Talk - who provide free, confidential psychodynamic group and individual counselling for young people aged 13-25 in St Albans and the surrounding areas.
  • Mayfair Lodge Fundraising Friends – which is a charity dedicated to supporting residents of Mayfair Lodge care home. Their recent fundraising efforts have gone towards the provision of a tearoom and dementia garden.

A spokesperson for Mayfair Lodge Fundraising Friends (MLFF), said:

“It’s absolutely amazing to receive a cheque for over £2,000. MLFF use all monies raised to make life better for the residents of Mayfair Lodge Care Home and these funds will be put to a very good use. MLFF would like to express our sincere thanks to Hertfordshire FA and Potters Bar Town.”

Youth Talk’s Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser, Jim Lewis, said:

“We are delighted to have received a cheque for just over £2,000 through the generosity of St Albans City FC and Hertfordshire FA. This sum will provide an additional 40 one-to-one counselling sessions, we are so thankful to be chosen for this wonderful gift.”

Our Charity Shield shares a similar purpose, giving teams slightly further down the football pyramid a chance to support good causes. The beneficiaries from that competition were decided in late June.
