Without a Referee, There is No Game
Referees are at the very heart of the game and play a crucial role in helping football take place. From local grassroots football played in a park on a Sunday morning right through to the FA Cup Final at Wembley, every football match needs a referee.
That's why here at Hertfordshire FA we are dedicated to producing, supporting and developing a highly motivated and talented network of FA qualified referees who help ensure everybody can enjoy the game in a fair and safe environment.
Refereeing can be a rewarding experience for all sorts of reasons, from building vital life skills such as confidence and communication, to supporting the younger generation to enjoy playing the game. There's even the potential for a professional career.
We work hard to provide a wide range of opportunities and support to more than 800 registered referees officiating across the county already, while encouraging those looking to get into refereeing for the first time to take up the whistle.
Strategy for Grassroots Refereeing
An ambitious plan to ensure world class referees are being developed through the pathway from grassroots to elite, so that the game is officiated at the highest possible standards.
The three-year strategy also commits to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of referees at all levels by reducing abuse and making referees feel truly valued on and off the pitch.
